THORNBURY A travelled to Redland looking to make it two wins from two and get their title bid back on track.

Returning captain Brad Jenkins started the night with an impressive 3-1 win over in-form Dale Diment at number one string.

There were close run losses for Callum Davidson (3-2) and Ryan Wilson (3-1).

However Craig Webb won his match 3-1 leaving Matt Bedwell to seal the match for Thornbury with a convincing 3-0 win.

The final match score being 16-8 and up into provisional second place in the league.

Thornbury B were up against Bristol University who unfortunately could only manage to bring four players on the night.

Nevertheless it was important to get off to a good start to have a chance of the team staying in this division.

Alex McMillan was on first and reversed a 2-1 game deficit taking the fourth and fifth games 9-0 and 9-2 respectively, a great effort and performance from the Thornbury stalwart.

Calum Davies-Smith was up next, he got off to a rocky start losing the first two games and just won the third. Calum then went into overdrive and thrashed his opponent taking the match 3-2.

Mark Toseland got off to a great start winning the first game 9-2 but ended up losing the match 3-1.

Finally, Chris Hutchence was on last and put in a gritty performance against a good opponent, Chris went 2-1 down, nailed the fourth game 9-0 and then took the fifth game 10-9.

Overall, it was a great night of squash and first win of the season for the team.

The C team lost 7-16 at Gordano, Viv Bailey-Gard, dropped down from the B team, fought hard at 1st string but went down 3-1 to a strong opponent. Steve Morley struggled at second string, losing 3-0.

Nigel Tovey had a hard-fought 3-2 win at third string, both players had match balls in a nail biting fifth game, with Nigel finally edging it 10-8.

Ian Talbot lost 3-0 at fourth string.

A lay-off for injury has obviously done Mick Dixon some good, he was on fire at fifth string, giving his opponent no chance and winning 3-1.

Thornbury D entertained Westbury David Lloyd B and ended up losing three matches to two.

The match itself was over relatively quickly with all matches finishing 3-0.

Nick Clifton and Mark Dalziel made short work of their opponents to ensure Thornbury bagged some useful points and Ian Johnson played well at the start, almost grabbing the first game before his experienced opponent stepped it up a level.

The E team had their first win since Christmas against regular opponents Kingswood, it was started by a solid performance and a 3-0 victory by James Jenkins.

This was quickly followed by two more victories by Matt Brown 3-1 and Bill Ellis 3-0.

The last two matches ended in defeat but Thornbury won 17-7.
