Chipping Sodbury under nines v Avonmouth under nines

CHIPPING Sodbury under nine's match against Avonmouth was going to be an interesting game as Avonmouth are a strong side with a good combination of height and speed.

Following a narrow defeat in their last game, Sodbury were looking to seeing how the team would respond.

And they did themselves and their club proud, showing great character coupled with their effort and desire delivered the result they deserved.

The first half was evenly contested with both teams scoring four tries, Jaylen Brown opened the scoring using his pace when attacking the open-side.

Avonmouth scored to tie the game but following the restart, Kurtis Palmer took possession, targeted the space and was only stopped by a fantastic tackle.

He off-loaded the ball too Freddie Nutt who was in support and ran in for the score. Grace Lockett was doing an amazing job ferreting for the ball at the breakdown.

Franklin Griffee showed his audacious tackling prowess and was integral in winning possession for the fourth try scored by Freddie Nutt, ending the first half four tries to two.

In to the second half and Charlie Davies showing great awareness to score when finding a gap that never seemed to be there!

Grace Lockett and Erin Stait combined well at the restart to halt Avonmouth’s progress with some strong tackling.

Jack Smith foraged well for the ball at the breakdown and it was his pass to the supporting Brown and Nutt combination that allowed Nutt to stride in and score.

Avonmouth again hit back on the break to scored, Ruby Hopes who had an excellent game run hard shrugging off the tackles to offloaded to Scott who drove over to score. Some good attacking play saw Avonmouth rewarded with a score.

At the restart Sodbury progressed up the field with Stait heading the drive only to be halted by the robust Avonmouth defence Palmer was again on hand to collect the pass who then ran towards the corner but again he was repelled at the five metre line showing good awareness he popped a pass to the well-timed run of Griffee who showed perfect handling to finish off a good team effort.
