GLOUCESTER’S Rob Milkins reached the Welsh Open second round on Tuesday after an assured display to beat China’s Yu Delu by 4-0 in Cardiff.

And Bristol’s world number three Judd Trump is also through to today’s second round after a comfortable win over Widnes’ Andrew Higginson.

Milkins struggled to get over the line in the first frame, but once he got going, the Gloucester ace walked away with the match, allowing Delu only 16 points in the next three frames.

Milkins included a thumping 76 break in the third frame and now faces Scottish outsider Eden Sharav this afternoon.

And Trump, ranked five in the world, was in seriously good form against Higginson as he thumped in two century breaks – the one in frame four of 140 was the highest break of the tournament so far – plus two breaks over fifty in a top quality potting match to beat his opponent by 4-1.

Trump will be favourite to progress further in the Welsh Open now as he faces another rank outsider, world number 111 Alex Borg from Malta, tonight.
