CHARFIELD'S Martin Charles just missed out on a prestigious national title when he competed in the singles final of the 2016 Morocco Matchplay in Marrakech.
Engineering team leader Martin Charles, 45, an 11-handicapper, who plays at Cotswold Edge GC, secured one-and-a-half points in his three round-robin matches at the Robert Trent Jones-designed PalmGolf Marrakech Palmeraie, but, ultimately, finished runner-up to Strathlene GC's Richard Cormack, losing 6&4 in the final.
Charles said: "It's absolutely fantastic to come second. To enter a national competition and come second is a real achievement. I'm really chuffed.
"I've absolutely loved the whole week, it's been wonderful. The weather's been great, the resort's been great; the golf's been competitive, all the guys were fantastic. I couldn't have wished for anything more.
"The organisation of the event has been second-to-none. We've been kept informed clearly through each phase of the competition and the whole thing's been first class. I'll certainly be entering this year."
