GLOUCESTER’S Rob Milkins is progressing nicely through the Welsh Open in Cardiff after winning his second round match on Wednesday evening.

But all eyes will be on Bristol’s Judd Trump on Thursday as the world number five takes on the sensation of the tournament, a teenage schoolboy who has had to get permission to take time off school to play in the tournament.

Milkins again showed excellent form to beat Scotland’s Eden Sharav in the second round, going 3-0 up via breaks of 51 and a magnificent 115 before his opponent hit back with a frame.

But the run was temporary as Milkins finished things off in frame five to meet another rank outsider, Ireland’s Josh Boileau, on Thursday.

As for Trump, he hit some nice breaks against Malta’s Alex Borg but could not shake off his opponent. They were level at 2-2 before Trump won the fifth and hit a 52 break in the sixth to come through 4-2.

Now he has set himself up against that 15-year-old potter. He is Jackson Page, who is from Ebbw Vale in Wales and will have the backing of the home crowd as he plays the biggest match of his life on Thursday.
