North Bristol 2nds 26 St Bernadette 2nds 10

BITTERLY cold weather could have spoiled many a game, but both sides rose to the challenge and threw heart and soul into the fray.

Five minutes of early pressure from North Bristol ended with an awesome try from outstanding centre, Josh Camply, whose powerful straight run down the middle ended with a try, which Phil Sterry duly converted.

It was not long, however, before Sterry forged some glory of his own, with a fine individual effort, which brought him a try, inexplicably unconverted by the try scorer.

While the home side grew in confidence, thanks to a great scrum and line-out, policed by grafting number eight Matt Bowden, Bernadette’s endeavour was in turn rewarded, when their right wing outpaced the home defence to score an excellent try for a half time score line of 12-5.

Injuries to St Bernadette’s brought generous replacements from North Bristol’s bench, but the home side’s reward was a second crashing burst from centre Josh Camply.

Sterry’s conversion took North 19-5 ahead.

A good piece of teamwork brought Saints another try at 19-10, but the last score was to be North’s.

A strangely mishit high ball went sideways, where Sterry took the awkward catch, before his powerful 45 metre run brought him a marvellous score.

The fly-half converted his own try to take North Bristol to a cracking 26-10 victory against worthy opponents.

l North Bristol first team went down to more Gloucester Premier Division misery as they lost away to Gordon League on Saturday.

A losing bonus point was some consolation from the 21-14 loss, however it could have been a lot more.

Every point is vital for North as they try to avoid relegation from the Premier League this season, but wins are crucial.

Number eight John Wood barged over for a North try in the first-half which was converted by fly-half Joel Phillips.

And when North Bristol were awarded a penalty try which Phillips converted for his 600th point for the club, they were looking good at 14-6.

But League hit back and overtook their opponents to win.
