Chipping Sodbury U10s v Avonmouth U10s

CHIPPING Sodbury arrived at a shivering cold Avonmouth last Sunday but straight from the first whistle it was plain to see they had a well drilled Avonmouth team to contend with.

Sodbury started the game the slower and it showed as Avonmouth found themselves four tries to the good before Sodbury began to wake from the slumber.

Once they did, the game began to become a contest, Sodbury pulled one back when going over the line powerfully through Riley Gustafson.

The game flowed well and even after some fantastic counter rucking from Warren Cowler.

The half time break could not come quick enough for Sodbury.

The Sodbury coaches rang the changes in playing personnel, along with reinforcing what they need to do, and they came out in the second half a different, rejuvenated team and looking much more themselves, Tyler Brookes began to use his pace and audacious mazy like runs to evade a robust Avonmouth defence creating and scoring in the corner.

Pushing themselves in to the limelight, William Craig and George Lockett started to overload their tackle count filling the gaps that were ceased upon so devastatingly in the first half Not to be outdone, Avonmouth continued to add their own pressure on a much better Sodbury defence which, after an endless barrage of pressure, they managed to breach as they went over again with a well worked try.

Sodbury did have the last say with a great individual try from George Lockett who produced a stunning tackle then showing great tenacious reactions to turn the ball over pick up and run the try in from 30 metres.

The game ended with Avonmouth the victors by nine tries to five but there was plenty for Chipping Sodbury’s youngsters to take away and be confident about when they pull on their jerseys again for their next match.
