Hellenic League Division One West

Abingdon United 4 Tytherington Rocks 1

TYTHERINGTON Rocks’ losing run continues after travelling to one of their furthest venues in the league at Abingdon United.

But, despite the score against one of the best teams in the league, Rocks played very well but again missed three good scoring chances which has been their downfall all season.

Abingdon scored after five minutes when new signing 17-year-old Graham Bryan, recently joined from Oxford United, cut in from the right to hit a close shot past Rocks keeper Adam Clark.

This was followed with Abingdon doing most of the attacking and Bryan scored their second goal on 25 minutes when from the left he scored with a low shot giving keeper Clark no chance.

The rest of the first half was evenly played but during this time, Rocks missed two clear chances and their keeper Clark brought off two excellent saves to keep the score at 2-0 at the break.

The second-half continued in much the same way, however Abingdon put the game beyond Rocks when, in the 53rd minute, a great drive by Jack Wright from the right low across keeper Clark for their third.

Following this goal, Rocks had two clear chances to score which went begging after misses by Junior Mbika, who had worked hard during the game and deserved at least to get on the score sheet.

Abingdon scored their fourth and final goal of the game when captain Graham Edney put the ball in the Rocks net in the 65th minute.

Rocks got a consolation goal when Patrick Boyd ran into the box and shot past home keeper Jack Griffiths.

Tytheringon Rocks are at home on Tuesday to Swindon College KO 7.45pm in The UHL Sports Hellenic League.

Rocks follow this with an away trip to top of the league Fairford Town on Saturday, February 25 KO 3pm.
