THORNBURY displayed numerous well executed passing exchanges in a deserved victory against Westberries.

Thornbury started confidently with Emma Matthews, Megan McLachlan and Megan Allen prominent.

Thornbury's pleasing start earned an early reward when a shot from Jen Arnold was illegally stopped on the line resulting in a penalty stroke, Elaine Arnold confidently stepped forward and expertly converted it to give Thornbury the lead.

Coach Max Longden obviously in spired the side and a second goal soon followed with Poppy Woolnough hammering home from in front of goal.

Nicky Bruce and Lucy Woodruff contributed a number of neat touches to continue to pressurise the visitors and when Westberries attacked , Rosie Liddington, Tess Wheatley and Elaine Arnold were more than a match for the Westberries forwards.

Liz Jenkins in goal for Thornbury when called into action made a number of fine saves to ensure the visitors did not score.

Alex Arnold was everywhere on the pitch and gave her usual energetic performance whilst captain Jen Arnold and Izzy Hunter distributed the ball expertly in mid field.

Thornbury scored two further first half goals to secure a 4-0 lead at the interval Under 16 captain Megan Allen scored the third when she deftly touched home a well executed pass in the circle and Lucy woodruff got the fourth following her usual defence splitting run from half way.

The second half was goalless with the visitors having the better chances only to be denied by Liz Jenkins and her defence.

Thornbury visit BAC seconds on Saturday and South Gloucs on Sunday in a rearranged game.

Meanwhile Thornbury seconds were frustrated when their game at Knowle seonnds was called off due to only one umpire being present Sarah Brealey's side will return to action on Saturday when Avonmouth seconds are the visitors 10.30 start.

Thornbury RFC's Parker incidentally won her first international rugby cap for Wales Ladies against Scotland on Friday so it is unlikely she will be guesting for the visitors on Saturday.
