Clifton Robinsons 4th 2 Thornbury 1

THORNBURY were quickly out of the blocks in their final league game and took the lead in the first minute through Nicky Bruce who finished off a well-executed movement involving Megan Allen and Izzy Hunter.

Jen Arnold’s side initiated a number of delightful passing movements in the first half and were more than a match for the league leaders.

Liz Jenkins in goal saved the few shots from the home side to ensure that the visitors retained their lead at the interval. Rosie Liddington, Megan McLachlan and Laura Hayward combined effectively and Alex Arnold was everywhere popping up in attack one minute and defence the other.

Arnold gave a captains performance neatly distributing the ball in mid field.Tess Wheatley and Sara Newman defended well and intercepted a number of through balls from the home side .

Clifton Robinsons relentlessly attacked in the second half and it was only a matter of time before they would equalise. Indeed the goal finally came with just ten minutes remaining.

Thornbury were unable to clear their lines on numerous occasions and managed to deny Clifton Robinsons until the last three minutes when the defence was breached and the winning goal scored too late for Thornbury to grab a deserved equaliser .

A young Thornbury side did well to hold the league winners to a two goal margin and were unfortunate not to score at least one goal for their efforts.

Sarah Lally strove tirelessly up front to add to her impressive tally this season but some good goalkeeping denied her.

Hannah Williams playing in defence for the first time shone with an excellent display denying the visitors with timely interceptions whilst the experienced duo of Amanda McGarry and Angela Greenslade contributed a number of well executed through balls to Emma Matthews, Jess Wilson and Molly Smith.

Lu Lu Taylor, who was player of the match, again showed much promise for Thornbury with Jess Taylor, Anna Prince and Laura Matthews also involved in a number of pleasing passing movements which stretched the visiting defence but alas did not result in a goal.

Larly Staton made a couple of saves in goal but had no chance with the ones that found the net.
