The De Cymru & The Marches 2

Pembroke County 1 Wotton-under-Edge 2nd XI (A) 4

WOTTON-Under-Edge seconds took the long journey to West Wales for a match against the already relegated team, Pembroke County.

In the glorious spring sunshine, the game had the feeling of a summer league fixture, and the news before the game that Wotton were already guaranteed of a seventh place finish compounded this feeling of an exhibition game.

The Blues certainly put on an exhibition in the first half, keeping possession with superb passing and cutting through the opposition almost at will.

Two goals from Archie Cropper, including his signature reverse stick bomb, and a short corner from captain Neil Forsyth ensured the result before half time. Pembroke did manage a goal of their own during a lapse in concentration from Wotton's otherwise solid defence.

Whilst the second half only produced one goal, it was one to grace any stage. Pushing down the left, Ben Butter squared the ball to Chris Price who hit a first-time reverse stick shot which arrowed high towards the goal, hitting the inside of the left post as it went in. It certainly was a fitting way to finish the season.

In a season where this team have blown hot and cold, it's fair to say, they certainly finished hot. If they can produce performances in the same ilk as they have over the last couple of months, they may just surprise a few more teams next season.

Man of the match was John Shovelton and a special mention to outbound skipper Neil Forsyth for leading this team with drive and passion this season.
