Gloucestershire County League

Patchway Town 0 Thornbury Town 0

THIS was typical end-of-season fayre, with Patchway with few clearcut chances being created by either side throughout the ninety minutes.

Town kicked up the slope in the first half and found it difficult to get round the back of a resolute home defence although Toby Bennett did have a shot on target after 10 minutes but his effort was straight into the arms of Jamie Farmiloe.

At the other end Raphael Waugh found himself in space 5 minutes later but curled his shot wide of the far post. The only other chance of note in the first period came after 25 minutes when Joe Guest’s cross from the right found Luke Franklin at the far post, but the midfielder couldn’t get enough direction on his header and the ball went narrowly wide with Farmiloe beaten.

The first 15 minutes of the second half saw Thorns create a number of half chances but couldn’t find the decisive breakthrough. Firstly Ollie Bradley took advantage of a mistake in the home defence but as he was about to shoot he was denied by a last ditch challenge and a Nathan Sage shot from a Bennett corner was just too high.

Craig Lancastle also came close to giving Town the lead but midway through the half two great interceptions at the other end from Nathan Sage prevented the hosts from going ahead.

The two keepers had to be at their best as the half wore on, firstly Farmiloe tipped a goalbound header over the bar and then saved Lancastle’s shot from the resultant corner. At the other end TomSheppard pulled off good saves from Dunt and Waugh.

Whilst Thorns were happy with another clean sheet, they were disappointed not to take all 3 points as they look to cement a 4th placed finish.

They had no games over the Easter period but played Bishops Cleeve Reserves on Wednesday evening and travel to Henbury for their last game of the season this Saturday.
