IT was an amazing weekend at Brands Hatch for Yate's Luke Hedger.

This is only his second round on his EHA Racing Aprilia and rookie year in the Pirelli Superstock 1000 Championship.

He had already shown his ability at Donington Park just two weeks ago with two top ten finishes. So going into round two, he was hopeful for similar results.

In the free practice sessions on Friday morning, Hedger set some really quick times and stayed well inside the top ten in both free practice one and two ending the first session in seventh place and the second session in sixth.

Saturday morning was time for the one and only qualifying session of the weekend and although Lukes time had improved from Friday, he only managed to qualify tenth.

Brands hatch Indi is such a tight track and one of the shortest distance circuits on the race calender, it was so difficult for him to improve on this because there is so many riders in such a short space, every time Hedger tried to set a faster lap he kept getting held up behind much slower riders.

The times where so close he was only only 0.3 seconds off the pole setter.

The first of two races was held on Sunday afternoon. This was the first of the 50 miles extended races (38 laps).

Luke got off to a great start gaining two positions off the line, and after a few laps found himself locked in a Titanic battle for the third Podium place, with fellow racers Rispoli, Rouse and Hutchinson all taking their turn to hold third position and although Hedger held his third spot for several lap, Hutchinson got the better of Hedger.

He took his best finish so far this season finishing in fourth , but he had set the third quickest lap time of the race, so for race two on Monday Luke started from the front row.

Race two saw Hedger rolled up to take his third place position and, as the lights went out, Hedger didn't manage to capitalize losing three places dropping back to sixth place, he then found him self stuck behind Michael Rutter and although Luke was clearly faster than Rutter.

Rutter is the most experienced rider in Hedger's class and young Luke just couldn't make a pass on him.

For several laps, Hedger continued to try to get passed Rutter. He finally overtook but there was a massive gap to the leading pack Luke just made sure he hit every apex and slowly the gap started to close.

By the penultimate lap, Hedger was right on the back of the leading pack and going into the last corner of the last lap Hedger made an epic pass on Danny Buchan to take fourth place.

Hedger came away from Brands eighth in the Championship. Also he was top rookie in both races.

Hedger said: “The weekend was perfect from start to finish as we were in the top six in all sessions.

"The two races were amazing to be part of: the first race was the 50-miler, which was 38 laps around Brands Indy and I had a mega start and was up to third, but eventually finished fourth, although just 0.2sec off the podium.

"It was the same in the second race, I got a good start and moved my way into fifth, and with just five laps to go, I was catching the front pack.

"On the last lap I was on them but only had time to grab fourth – again just 0.2-sec off third again.

"I am so happy with these results and can't thank the team enough, especially Ian and Jack for all their hard work. A big shout out to my personal sponsors, SRS and Swindon Karting.”
