MARTYN Green is more likely to be found on his cyclocross bike these days, but he donned his running shoes once again on Tuesday for the Aztec West Fast 5k.

He showed he has not lost much of his leg speed with a swift 18:19 mins in a race which featured heavy rainfall. Martyn finished 48th overall and second in the MV40 age category.

Jonathan Greenwood was back racing at Aztec West and he made the top three of his age category again (125th overall, 3rd MV60 ) in 21.55 mins.

There were 10 Thornbury runners in 5 different parkruns on Saturday. Kevin Arnold was the first of 6 of our runners at Chipping Sodbury and finished in 22:02 mins in 52nd place.

Hugh McPherson was next in 23:26 mins in 88th place.

Malcolm and Karen Carr are in a rich vein of form and for the second week in a row broke their PBs on the Chipping Sodbury course. Both Malcolm and Karen have reduced their PBs by 2 minutes in the last year and Malcom dipped under 25 mins for the first time in 24:52 mins in 129th place.

Not to be outdone, Karen broke through the 26 mins barrier with an excellent time of 25:48 mins for 158th place and 29th female.

David and Anne Palmer were next over the line in times of 27:50 mins (226th place) and 32:30 mins (331st place and 116th female).

Liam Symonds-Barry has been a regular at Kingsway parkrun in Gloucester in recent weeks and completed the course this week in 23:11 mins in 37th place.

Paul Thomas impressed again by finishing in 4th place at Wotton parkrun in 19:48 mins.

Chris Dawes ran in his 70th parkrun this week. He ventured down to Southampton and joined a huge field of 1032 runners. Chris finished in 146th place in 21:28 mins.

Janet Gaze was another racing further afield in Aylesbury’s parkrun and had a great run with a time of 28:40 mins in 95th place, 23rd female.

Helen Tayler and Ros Rowland both competed in 10k races over the weekend. Ros headed south for the Round the Tor 10k in Glastonbury, which is run over an undulating course with a challenging hill just before the finish line. Ros was 8th in the VF45 age category and 173rd in 46:52 mins.

Helen stayed closer to home and raced in the 30th edition of Pensford 10k. Helen finished in 1hr 07:04 mins, 10th in FV50 age category and 199th overall.

Thornbury Running Club meet on Thursdays at 7pm atThornbury Leisure Centre and runners of all types are welcome, from walking speed upwards to quick racers and ultras. There are coaching sessions from the upper Leisure Centre car park on Tuesdays at 7pm.

A new beginners group is starting on 9th May following the popular ‘Couch to 5k’ sessions which started last year.
