FOREST Green Rovers' Darren Carter has left The New Lawn with the midfielders contract having been terminated by mutual consent.

The former Premier League man has been a regular feature at the club since making his debut on the day he signed against Cheltenham Town in September 2015.

He made a total of 65 league appearances for FGR and played a major role in helping the team reach last season's National League promotion final at Wembley.

The 33-year-old was offered a new one-year contract when Mark Cooper was installed as manager at the end of the 2015-16 season, and he's gone onto make 29 league appearances this term.

His final Rovers appearance came at the start of April when he appeared as a substitute in a 1-0 win away win over Guiseley.
