PAUL Lyon and Jake Dolbear earned the top awards when Dursley Town AFC held their presentation evening for the 2016/17 season at the club’s base last Saturday evening.

Centre-back Lyon was voted first-team Players’ Player of the Year by his team-mates, while young midfielder Dolbear was Phil Miles’ choice for first-team Manager’s Player of the Year.

Left-sided defender Paul Cook collected the reserve-team Players’ Player of the Year award, while Chris Wilkins and Jay Allsop shared Robbie Cox’s Manager’s Player of the Year honours.

Jamie Shimman was the leading goalscorer in the first team with 12, while Ben Smith’s ten goals in a season of limited appearances was good enough to top the charts for the reserve team.

The Supporters’ Player of the Year award went to Keiran Austin;.

Jake Hawkins and Alex Griffith shared Young Player of the Year; and Bern Thomas was named Clubman of the Year.

Trophies were also awarded to Dolbear for passing one hundred appearances for the club, as well as first-team player boss-Miles and his brother Simon for reaching the two hundred game mark.

l Dursley have named Ben Smith as their new reserve-team manager for the 2017/18 season.

The striker, a regular goalscorer in his two seasons since rejoining the club, takes over from Robbie Cox with the team having finished at the bottom of the Stroud League Division Three table.

Smith will be assisted by long-serving goalkeeper Keith Watson, who is still recovering from the broken leg and ankle ligament damage that ended his season last October.

Meanwhile, first-team player-manager Phil Miles will be assisted by Rob Lidgett in the coming season with the club looking to improve upon their 13th-placed finish in Northern Senior Two.
