ROCKHAMPTON made it back-to-back home wins in the West of England Premier Cricket League Prem 2 Glos/Wilts with a thoroughly professional performance against Burbage on Saturday.

Having won the toss, Jack Spence decided to have a bowl with rain in the air and a slightly greener than normal wicket – and his bowlers did not let him down.

Luckless spells from opening bowlers Will Cartlidge and Jamie Wakefield, backed up by Dave McCabe and Chris Willoughby, saw the Burbage openers mange to survive but that was all they were doing.

The first wicket fell with the score on 75 but in the 28th over as Willoughby managed to find the edge through to Spence’s gloves, leaving the rest of the order a real battle to get anywhere near the par score of 225.

This brought to the crease, overseas start Deepak Joon who smashed 221 not out two weeks earlier, but a strong Rockhampton attack saw him score twenty before falling to the returning Wakefield (2-25).

Wickets now began to fall with regularity as the need to push the score on was essential and Brothwood was able to capitalise with a superb spell of 9-0-33-4 as he removed numbers four and five, as well as the captain.

Spence helped himself to two stumpings in the process.

There were also two run outs following two exceptional pieces of fielding by both Brothwood and Will Tyler as the innings ended on 185-9 from fifty overs.

In response, Rockhampton lost early wickets and were soon 24/3 with Tristan de Beer (0), Richard Howell (6) and Wakefield (1) all dismissed, leaving the Tyler brothers at the crease.

They were able to nullify all threats and calmly went about their business.

After drinks, Will Tyler decided to push on and was first to reach his fifty with his brother Matt not far behind having survived a huge shout for a caught behind.

Will continued his impressive early season form and eased any nerves Rockhampton may have had as he drove, pulled and swept a total of 12 boundaries on his way to a superb 88 not out as he shared an unbeaten fourth wicket partnership of 162 with his equally as impressive brother Matt who ended on 63 not out as the pair saw Rockhampton home with four overs to spare and move them up to fourth in the league.

Next up for Rockhampton is a trip to Biddestone on Saturday before entertaining Frampton-on-Severn in the next round of The Village Knockout on Sunday at The Boundary Field, 1:00pm start.
