A MIGHTY throng of Thornbury runners assembled on what was a drizzly Monday evening to take part in the Berkeley 10k.

The relatively flat course is a favourite for faster times and there were PBs galore among the team of 18 runners.

Nick Williams set off at a furious pace in his first ever road 10k and reached the half way point in 16th place out of 404 runners.

He showed he has good stamina to go with blurring leg speed and overtook a couple more runners to finish 14th overall in a rapid 37:17 mins.

Clare Watt was first lady for the club and was the highest placed of all in her respective age category, finishing in 46:31 mins and second in VF50 group.

Clare was 133rd overall and 24th female.

Paul Thomas was the second Thornbury runner to cross the line in 40:46 mins and 54th overall.

Moray Sloan produced a good display of even pacing to finish in 83rd in 42:51 mins. Nick Langridge was fourth in V65 age category in a time of 43:30 mins and 88th overall.

Richard Jackson was next and measured his effort well to cross the line in 102nd in 44:29 mins and Sean Underwood was 143rd in 47:10 mins.

Lizzie Ormerod had never beaten 50 mins for the 10k before and set off on a mission to smash it, which she did by over two minutes in 47:39 mins, 161th overall and 33rd female.

Alison Dyson was not far behind Lizzie, claiming a top five spot in the VF40 age category in 48:39 mins, 180th overall and 39th female.

Chris Foley finished 181st in 48:37 mins and Mike Bennewitz was 195th in 49:25 mins. Angela Bushell dipped under fifty minutes in a time of 49:47 mins in 202nd place and 50th female.

Jon Welsh was 219th in 51:10 mins and Hugh McPherson was close by in 51:36 mins in 229th.

After coming close to breaking the hour barrier earlier in the year on a hilly 10k course, Cathy Watkins demolished her personal best in 56:56 mins, 291st overall and 102nd female.

John Watt finished 317th in 58:54 mins and was followed by Suzy Cundy who finished in 1hr and 5 seconds. Arthur Renshaw was Thornbury’s final runner with a time of 1hr 12 seconds.

There were relatively few runners out and about on Saturday morning on the parkrun circuit. Liam Symonds-Barry is a regular fixture now at the Kingsway run in Gloucester. After several PB performances in recent weeks, he took it easier this time around to finish in 25 mins exactly in 66th place.

Malcom and Karen Carr were back in action in Chipping Sodbury. Karen was 12th female and 159th overall in a time of 26:58 mins and Malcolm was 112th overall in a time of 25:22 mins.
