ULEY CEVC Primary School’s footballers have been presented with the coveted Fair Play award at the National Finals of the ESFA Danone Nations Cup, the England leg of the world’s biggest football tournament for 10-12 year olds.

Having triumphed earlier in the year in the Gloucestershire County knock-out rounds and the resulting South West regional final, Uley Primary competed at Stoke City FC's stadium in the Small Schools’ Cup, part of the ESFA Danone Nations Cup National Finals.

Uley’s exemplary behaviour was noted throughout the final by the panel of judges, who praised their sense of camaraderie and display of respect for each other and the referee.

Lizzie Walker, PE Lead at Uley, said: "We're very proud of our team, they've worked so hard for many months to get to the National Finals.

"It's been an incredible experience for them to play at a Premier League-stadium at Stoke City FC. We're particularly delighted that they received a Fair Play medal, which is a great testament to their team spirit and goes to show how far you can go if you practise Fair Play on and off the pitch."

Former Tottenham, Liverpool and England centre back John Scales, ambassador of the tournament, said: “Hats off to Uley Primary, they displayed exemplary fair play behaviours and played in the true spirit of the game, where mutual respect, teamwork and friendship is crucial.”
