THE SUN shone brightly on Cotswold Edge Golf Club Juniors in their Club Championship recently and some very impressive under par scores were returned.

After a three hole play-off, Tom Cranwell won the gross trophy from Theo Martin after they both scored gross ninety.

Tom also earned himself a four-shot handicap cut with his nett score of 62.

Theo won the nett trophy with nett seventy and Lewis Smith came third with nett 74.

The Rover Cup, a strokeplay competition for both and men ladies, was well supported and Rob Melville scored nett 68 to win the trophy.

Results – Division 1: Simon Craker nett 69, Mark Harris 70 & Willie Cruickshank 70; Division 2: Rob Melville 68, Pat Briggs 68 & John Downes 70; Division 3: Chris Reeves 72, Les Truby 73 & Mike Ward 74; Among the ladies, Jacky Amos won on countback from Julie Reynolds and Ali Buncher, all who finished with nett 74. Barrie Humphries earned himself a two-shot handicap cut after shooting a 68 under par score in the June Medal. Results – Division 1: Tom Reynolds 71, Andy Cocking 71 and Richard Rogers 72; Division 2: Glynn Briggs 70, Wayne Parsons 70 and Kim Sharp 70; Division 3: Barrie Humphries 68, Brendan Turbitt 70 & Mike Ward 71. Three clubs were the order of the day on Bank Holiday Monday with Brian Dagger winning the men’s competition with 42 stableford points from John Newns and John Cullimore, both with 36. Mel Lee took the honour for the ladies section with thirty points from Megan Mills 28 and Anne Crawley 26. Father and daughter combination Vernon and Casey Chappell won the Lathom Sharp Trophy, a mixed foursomes medal with nett 68.5 followed by Sid Pratt and Sue Reid 69 and Twister Taylor and Jacki Emerson 71.5. Lyn Smart and Tina Lewis scored an impressive forty points to win the Coronation Foursomes from Alison Ancrum and Mel Lee 33 and Sue Freeland and Dee Allen 32. They now go forward to the next round of the national competition and wait to hear where they will be competing. Corrinne Durber, Pat Waring and Mary Brealey won the Spring Bowmaker stableford competition with 83 points followed by Julie Paulett, Debbie Pringle and Sue Freeland 79 and Tina Lewis, Lynda Pearce and Lyn Smart 78. The Lawson Trophy was hotly contested with three points separating the top five scores.
