Riggs lads take the centre stage for third team By Richard Hawkins Bristol and District Cricket Association Ninth Division Thornbury 3rds 235-6 beat Hallen 194-9 by 41 runs THE RIGGS family took centre stage as Thornbury thirds beat Hallen firsts by 41 runs on Saturday.

Josh Riggs carried his bat for an accomplished 92 not out, Jason blasted a quickfire fifty and Alex took 3-16 from five overs.

Skipper Scarborough won the toss and chose to bat on a decent looking track.

Opening pair Rich Hughes and Josh Riggs started well with Hughes the aggressor until he fell in the 13th over for 26.

Jason Riggs joined Josh and, in typical Jason style, dispatched all bowling short or full to the mid-wicket boundary until he finally fell for fifty. His innings including four sixes.

This gave Thornbury the platform to post an imposing total as Alex Riggs joined his older sibling but fell for 11.

Kapil fell for eight but Jack Summerfield supported Josh well with his 22 and is was left with Tom Moore to ease the score over two hundred as the pair scored 34 runs off the last four overs to reach 235-6 with Josh just short of his century on 92 not out.

The young bowling attack began to make inroads early on as Hallen struggled to keep up the run rate required.

Rhys Price took the first wicket and with Alex Foulner making his debut took the vital wicket of Semmens following two big sixes as he held his nerve with Jack Summerfield taking a good catch a mid-off.

As the bowlers rotated, chances were created although a few catches were spilled.

Jack Summerfield bowled well to take 1-26 off his eight overs.

Harrison Wheeler took a wicket leaving Hallen on 131-6.

It was left to Alex Riggs to mop up finishing with 3 -16 as Hallen ran out of puff at 194 - 9 as the rain came in.

Another solid display with Riggs boys providing the entertainment and leaving Thornbury joint top of their division.

* On Sunday, a Thornbury XI entertained Oldbury at The Ship Field in a run fest.

Oldbury batted first scoring 271-6 with ex-Thornbury star Mike Nichols scoring an excellent century and Sam Phelps smashing 72.

Thornbury reached their target in the 39th over as Josh Riggs finally reached his maiden adult century with 103 not out.

Jordan Hicks kept Thorns up with the rate with a century.

Important contributions also came from Simon Weeks and Sunil Reddy.

* Thornbury seconds were due to play Cinderford St John but the match was called off due to a wet Cinderford pitch.
