A record entry of ninety pairs contested this year’s Thornbury Seniors Open.

On a fine but breezy day the Marlwood Course at Thornbury Golf Centre was in excellent condition.

A very large number of local clubs were represented in the field which even included a visitor from Spain.

The conditions were reflected in some excellent golf including 27 twos and many other birdies.

The later starters knew they had a difficult task on their hands as Dave Birtles (Thornbury) and Richard Panes (The Bristol), playing in only the second group, posted a Better Ball 52 points.

This subsequently proved to be out of reach for the remainder of the field.

However a number came close with Roy Pereia and Dave McKeown (Gloucester) taking the second visitors prize with 49 points just one ahead of Steve Hammond (Forest Hills) and Chris Taylor (Brickhampton Court).

The leading Thornbury pair were Peter Dawes and Lindsey Henniker-Heaton also with 49 points followed by Terry Duke and Terry Rees (47) and Llew Morgans and Ed Ryan (45).

Seniors captain Henry Campbell thanked organiser Llew Morgans and his many helpers for laying on such an enjoyable and successful event.
