West of England Premier League Prem 2 Glos/Wilts

Hatherley and Reddings 120 all out lost to Rockhampton 218-7 by 98 runs

ROCKHAMPTON grabbed their fifth win of the season as they finished off bottom placed Hatherley and Reddings in convincing style on Saturday.

The Rams had lost to Chippenham the previous week in the West of England Premier League Prem 2 Glos/Wilts so this was a great way to respond as they maintain their push for a top finish, currently laying in fourth place in the table.

Guy Brothwood was the star of the show as he scored 74 runs and returned 4-25 with the ball. Richard Howell also hit 68 while James Hancox took 4-38.

Hatherley and Reddings won the toss and chose to field and, for once, opener Matt Tyler was not able to be the platform at the top of the order as he went for just three.

Tristan De Beer was bowled for 16 but that paired the other Tyler brother, Will, who has just been called into an invitational side that will play Gloucestershire in a T20 warm-up match on Friday, with Brothwood.

Together, they added 62 runs to the total before Tyler was stumped by Hatherley and Reddings wicket keeper Sam Dent for 34.

However, if the home side thought Rockhampton would crumble from there, they had another think coming as Brothwood and Howell got together and formed another top partnership.

When Brothwood was eventually out for 74, which included 11 boundaries and a six off 111 balls, Rockhampton had recovered from the dangerous 23-2 they were on at one stage to 164-4.

The wickets fell as the Rams looked to grab as many runs as possible from the last overs, with Howell run out with the total on 214-7.

Wicket keeper and captain Jack Spence and bowler Sam Nicholls saw out the final balls to give the Rams a decent total of 218-7 to bowl at.

But they must have had a few worries that it may not be going to plan when Hatherley opener Jim Green started swinging the bat. The first wicket went on 56 when opener Max Kelly was bowled by Brothwood for 17.

From there, the devastating bowling of Brothwood and strike partner Hancox ripped through the home innings.

Green, who carried his bat for 62, watched as his partners at the opposite end quickly came and went with none of them being able to stick around to make a double figures score.

Indeed, the rest of the Hatherley and Reddings batting scored just 29 runs between them and, with Rockhampton adding 12 more runs to the home total in extras, it meant a comfortable victory for the visitors with Hatherley scoring just 120 all out.
