Gloucestershire Women 98-76 Herefordshire Women

GLOUCESTERSHIRE Women gained revenged from last season with a whitewash in the local derby against Herefordshire at St Martins winning 98-76.

Winning all six rinks, in the sun, that all finished after 18 ends the rink of Wendy Watson (Cheltenham Spa), Dot Eley (Victory Park), Marguerite Cobb (Tetbury) and Marilyn Wear (Frampton) had a ding dong of a battle with Barbara Griffiths that saw them be one shot behind after five and 10 ends before drawing level at 12-12 after 15 ends. In the last three ends, they grabbed seven shots to one to win 19-13.

Maddie hale (Fairford), Veronica Baldwin (Gloucester Co-op), Joyce Keating (Tetbury) and Lyn Hamer (Ardagh) against Jenny Cole held the upper hand throughout when they went from 4-1 up to lead 10-3 after 10 ends. Picking up another four shots they ended up with a six shot advantage at the end winning 16-10.

Jo Slater (Caer Glow), Angela Carey (Tetbury), Liz Webb (Cotswold) and Janet Lee-Cooper (Yate) found themselves trailing 6-2 to L. Allen. Cutting down the lead, they were still 9-7 down after 10 ends before grabbing five shots to take a 12-10 lead and go onto win 14-11.

May Shumer (Cheltenham Spa), Sandra Hambidge(Cheltenham), Christine Magee (EDF Energy) and Denise Ryles (Cotswold) against Rose Owen were staring defeat in the face after 10 ends when they were trailing 13-4. In a remarkable turnabout, they scored nine shots in the next five ends to cut the score back to 14-13. In the last three ends, they went ahead and gained a three shot win 18-15.

Anne Beaven (Dowty), Dawn Mulcock (Tetbury), Margaret Cadle (Dowty) and Val Heathcote(Stroud) up against B. Howard where one shot up after 10 ends leading 10-9 before going behind by three shots five ends later. In the final three ends the grabbed six shots against one to win by two shots 18-16.

Joyce Fearson (Barnwood), Barbara Clarke (Gloucester City), Maryan Pye (Caer Glow) and Lindsay Collin (Page Park) in an intriguing battle with Jill Bowen led 8-6 after 10 ends and kept their noses in front over the next eight ends to win 13-11.
