ONE hundred Dursley Running Club athletes were at the start of the Frampton 10K on Monday.

The first weekend of July was a very busy one for Dursley Running Clubs competitors, with track and field, swims, aquathlons, running and cycling events all taking place.

Dursley Juniors were at the Prince of Wales Stadium Cheltenham for the final event in the Gloucester U13s League series.

The team consisted of Bill Smith, Tim Smith, Harry Smith, Charlie and Olive Jones. The event started well with Bill Smith running a personal best in the six hundred metres.

The long jump saw some great technique, and Tom Smiths speed on the runway translated into a jump of just under four metres to place third. Tom Smith came first overall in the one hundred metres with a fine display of sprinting.

The weekend also saw the Monmouth Challenge, involving a variety of events to choose from a 2km swim and 12km run or a 1km swim and 12km run with the option to compete as a relay team.

DRCs supplied a couple of runners for the relay, ace runner James Everett teamed up with Charlie Griffiths whilst Charlie Taylor did the footwork for her husband.

Everett and Griffith placed first in the Full Challenge relay, blowing the opposition away both in the water and on the trails. Chris Young placed 10th in the 1km swim and run event with a time of 24:54mins in the water and 55:04mins on the run.

Also in the water were Mark Brasier and Line Whitlock who took part in the Great London Swim. Braiser completed a mile in 35:40mins with Whitlock very pleased with her time of 47:03mins.

DRC members Garry Strickland, Debbie Seal and Lisa Gillooly took part in the Berkeley Square London to Berkeley Square, Gloucestershire, charity ride.

With thirty other cyclists, they completed the 140 miles to raise awareness and money for Meningitis Now, The C.J.D support Network and the Sue Ryder Hospice. Currently donations stand at just over £13,000.

Saturday saw Andrea Sexton competed the Charmouth Challenge Britain’s most southerly fell race, placing 257th in a time of 01:35:37hours and was ninth F40.

Earlier in the day, 35 DRC athletes were at parkruns around the country, Neil Hodgson was fastest of the weekend in 18:35mins with Tom Smith just a little slower at Kingsway, with 18:57mins.

Achieving personal bests were Alice Lewis, Deborah Moulder, Tracey Goodwin and Terry Cother at Kingsway, Julie Furneaux at the Forest of Dean.

There was a large DRC turnout for the final race in the Aztec West Fast 5k series.

A blanket could have been thrown over the first three DRC athletes for most of the race until Mike Brown kicked for home in the last four hundred metres to come home first for DRC in 19:09mins. Alice Lewis placed second F55 and Margaret sixth V45, with Dave Durden fourth M50 and Tony Freer fifth.
