TEENAGE midfielder Jordan Simpson has opted to leave Swindon Town to sign for League Two rivals Forest Green Rovers on a free transfer.

The 18-year-old is the son of former Jamaica World Cup star Fitzroy Simpson, an ex-Manchester City, Portsmouth, and County Ground favourite. Simpson junior was offered a professional deal this summer ahead of the 2017-18 season and had linked up with David Flitcroft's Town squad at the start of pre-season.

However, the chance to work with former Town boss Mark Cooper and assistant Scott Lindsey with whom he worked closely while at the County Ground, was a significant factor.

Simpdon said: “I’m buzzing. I’m over the moon to be playing under Mark Cooper again. I know the staff here, I know they take good care of young players and will hopefully give me the opportunity to express myself.”

Simpson becomes Rovers' 10th summer signing and boss Mark Cooper is challenging the teenage midfielder to challenge for games in League Two.

Cooper said: “Jordan’s a really exciting young player – he’s box-to-box, he’s good on the ball and he’s a nice lad, so he should be a good addition to the squad.

“Scott and I have worked with him already at Swindon and we’re looking forward to seeing him take the next step here and challenge for games in League Two.”
