West of England League Prem 2 Glos/Wilts Division

Gloucester City Winget 222-9 lost to Rockhampton 252-5 by 30 runs.

HAVING lost yet another toss, making it ten from 11 this season, Rockhampton skipper Jack Spence was asked to have a bat by Gloucester City Winget.

And opening pair Matt Tyler and Jamie Wakefield responded to the challenge in style as they put on the first one hundred opening stand of Rockhampton’s season in testing conditions.

That set-up a fantastic base for Rockhampton to post a score above 250.

Wakefield looked back to his best as he was able to negotiate the new ball that was offering plenty along with the pitch on his way to 41 that included four boundaries.

He was caught at mid-off just before drinks with the score on 103.

Tristan de Beer was sent in at three with the job of speeding things along and he wasted no time in getting going, hitting two early boundaries as he batted beautifully on his way to a 35 ball fifty before attempting one too many shots and being caught on the rope.

Matt Tyler continued and was eventually run out for a brilliant eighty from 118 balls that included 11 boundaries.

A late surge by Rockhampton saw them reach 252-5 from their fifty overs with Will Tyler (20), Howell (14 not Out) and Willoughby (14 not Out) making this possible.

In response, the Gloucester City Winget innings never really got going as they lost wickets at regular and key points with James Hancox (3-29) and Dave McCabe (2-38), with a dislocated finger, comfortably the pick of the Rockhampton bowlers.

The hosts batted deep and never threw the towel as they finished on 222-9 from their fifty overs.

Next for Rockhampton is a trip to fourth-placed Burbage and Easton Royal on Saturday, 12.30 start.
