CLUB Championship weekend at Cotswold Edge Golf Club saw good entries from both the men and ladies sections.

The weather was not too kind on the Saturday with competitors having to battle strong winds, rain and for the early starters, mist.

Sunday was much better and the sun made an appearance a couple of times enabling everyone to enjoy a good barbecue after the final round.

The Men’s Championship saw an exciting first hole play-off with James Page being crowned club champion from Alex Godfree after both scoring a gross 156.

Steve Devaney came third with 157 followed by captain Gary Swift 160. Hannah Brown-Pearce is the ladies club champion with a gross 169 ahead of Tina Lewis 170.

Joe Docherty won the Hubert Tarr Shield for the best men’s nett with 141 from Vince Taylor 143 and Shaun Chappell on countback from Dave Munn both with 144. Julie Paulett won the ladies Best Nett Skillen Trophy with nett 143 followed by Sarah Tyler 149.

The July Midweek Medal saw several under par scores being returned and Steve Bishop earned himself a two-shot handicap cut by winning with a nett 66 from Richard Rogers 67 and Bob Hanks 68.

There were mixed fortunes for the men’s teams – the NGFL won at home to Ross-on-Wye whilst the ‘B’ team came second on their visit to Ross. The ladies friendly team enjoyed a home win against Stinchcombe (6-2) whilst the Alliance 2 team came up against stiff opposition at Cirencester losing 10-4.

The ladies friendly team also paid a visit to The Players, a new fixture for this year’s calendar, and enjoyed some very good company, although the result was not in our favour they are looking forward to the return match next year.
