THE Swans pre-season campaign continued with a comfortable victory away against Pegasus Juniors at Old School Lane on Saturday.

With all the goals coming in the first period, Slimbridge were not troubled by a Peggy side in the middle of a rebuild, who never really hit their stride during the 90 minutes.

Early chances were all created by the visitors, with Swans’ man of the match Joe Stokes having two good efforts saved early on.

Slimbridge took the lead on nine minutes, when Jack Twyman and Stokes combined well to set up a chance for a trialist, whose initial header was saved, but then converted the rebound.

On 18 minutes, Stokes was again close with a free kick that went just wide, but a minute later, Henry Birkett set up Nathan Payne, who drilled the ball home to double the advantage.

Payne was denied by a good tackle a minute later, but on the half hour mark it was three - Stokes’ cross headed home by Birkett.

As the opportunities continued to come for the visitors, Stokes had a good effort saved, and Payne saw his effort come back off the crossbar, before, right on the stroke of half time, Birkett and Stokes combined well, with Stokes hitting home the fourth of the afternoon.

The second half was a quieter affair - Romaine Thomas saw his effort saved when through on goal early on, another Stokes effort brought a further good save, and Birkett saw his effort palmed away.

Dean Turner was next to try his luck, bringing the Peggy keeper into action yet again, and Thomas blazed over after good work from Birkett with 15 minutes remaining.

Josh Beadle was also thwarted by the Peggy keeper in the final minutes, before the whistle blew on another good workout for Freddy Ward’s side ahead of a visit from Gloucester City on Tuesday (7.45pm) and a trip to Clanfield next Saturday (3.00pm).
