COTSWOLD Edge Golf Club had a full entry for its annual Mixed Open this week with both members and 31 visiting pairs taking part in the strokeplay and stableford competition.

In addition to the course, competitors had to battle the elements with heavy rain storms passing through on the day.

Home members Vern & Casey Chappell won the gross competition with 77 from Robert & Karen Preedy from The Kendleshire 78.

The Nett competition was won by John Humphrey & Sue Morrell-Weatherill from Deanwood Park nett 65 followed by Chris Brain & Re Gray (Chipping Sodbury) 67 and Barry Roberts & Jacki Emerson (Cotswold Edge) 68.

Phillip & Cathy Canning from St Pierre took the honours in the stableford competition with 41 points ahead of Wayne Parsons (Cotswold Edge) & Janice Thompson (The Bristol) 40.

The Seniors July Medal was also the inaugural qualifying competition for the Seniors Club Champion for the lowest gross score with Kenny Hibbitt taking the honours with 72.

There was a good turnout with several under par nett scores being returned. Division 1: John Anderson nett 65, Roy Hirst 68 and Gary Viney 69; Division 2: Brendan Turbitt on countback from Brian Hall and Gordon Workman all with nett 68.

The Ladies annual Fun Day was a great success with teams of three competing in a bowmaker stableford competition.

Several holes had unusual rules including teeing off with a putter and then putting with a driver and bonus points for landing in the bunker and the ditch! Maria Sheppard, Janet Duberley and Elaine Wheeler won with an impressive 84 points followed by Julie Cruickshank, Julie Reynolds & Angela Ryan 74 and Debbie Pringle, Julie Paulett & Kay Clark 73.

The Ladies Alliance 1 and 2 teams both won 10 – 4 in their respective matches – the 1st team away at Cotswold Hills and the 2nd team home to Tewkesbury Park. The Men’s NGFL team were less fortunate losing 5 – 1 away to Painswick whilst the ‘B’ team had the reverse result at home.
