MAKING a change for Dursley Running Club all the racing took place in the week with parkrun being the main event of the weekend.

Tuesday Night had seen three DRC stalwarts travelling to the Forest of Dean to take part in the Blaisdon 10k.

This was the ninth race of the 2017 Gloucestershire AAAs Road Race Series.The out & back course is hilly and the conditions were extremely warm and humid.

Mike Brown continued his excellent progress and was the first home for DRC in 41:21, 19th overall. Dave Saunders was next in with a time of 49:35 (First MV65), followed by Eileen Hieron, 01:03:40, first LV70, in fact Hieron was celebrating her 75th birthday.

The last event in Cheltenham Harriers Midsummer Open Series took place on the Wednesday evening.

David Durden started off proceedings for DRC running in the third heat of the 5000m, in blustery conditions, he took advantage of a couple of pace setters before David Francis of Harriers picked up the pace with four to go, Durden lost touch finishing second in 18:57.

Three DRC Juniors were also in action. Aoife Johnson was first out of the blocks for the Juniors in the 150m, third in her heat and third U15W overall on the night with a 20 second run, staying strong right up to the line.

Lilly Morgan and James Durden were then in the 800 heats, Durden ran in a fast second heat and after a strong start held on to run a personal best of 02:38.08 (seventh U17M) faster than his father who managed 02:41 in the next heat.

Lilly Morgan ran well in her heat to record a time of 03:05.5 (10th U11W) battling it out in the last 50 minutes to cross the line strongly. James Durden then finished the evening off with a 68.9 400m (third U17).

The weekend was all about parkrun, it being the last opportunity for DRC members to record a time for the club race championships.

There was a strong turn-out at Kingsway with Mike Crompton leading DRC home in 18:12 behind him Peter Chaffer, Tony Wooldridge and Margaret Johnson all produced excellent runs demonstrated by their age gradings, 78 per cent for Chaffer and Johnson and a very high 83.49 per cent for Wooldridge, still not surpassing Eileen Hieron on 84.25 per cent.

Johnson produced a personal best of 21:37 and was the second woman home, also running PBs were Damien Davis, Karen Eadon, Joanne Munyard, Lorraine Jacoby and Cath Hall.

At Wotton Gareth Bradbury was just seven seconds off his course best fourth overall and first for DRC in 19:45, with Garry Strickland sixth overall with a personal best of 21:33, matching Strickland on age grading was Graham Tudor running the course for the first time in 22:54.

Chris Curry and Terry Clother also ran bests at Wotton. Nigel Burford, Lise Hindshaw and Tracey Goodwin all ran PBs at Chipping Sodbury with Burford 10th home in 19:31.

Five of the DRC tri-team cycled over to Newent to celebrate John Hookways 50th parkrun, with Charlotte Palmer running a course best in the process.

Wednesday 19 had seen three of the DRC-Tri team in action at the South Glos Tri at Cromhall Chris Young, Zoe Lamerton and Carl Fivey.

Young and Lammerton were 5 seconds apart out of the water, with Fivey around two minutes in arrears.

Young pulled ahead on the bike completing the section in 36:47 a minute and ten seconds ahead of Lammerton. He knew he would have to work hard to keep in front of her on the run and she pulled 51 seconds not enough to manage to catch Young.

Fivey was strongest on the bike completing the course in 34:02 which negated his loss of time in the water he then finished with a steady run of 18:15 4 to be first home for DRC in 01:08:28.
