Reg Davis Memorial Cup round-up

BRADLEY Gibbs hit a hat-trick as Sharpness opened a season in which they have a few ambitions to achieve.

The Gloucestershire Northern Senior League kicks off this Saturday, with Sharpness beginning the division one season at home to FC Barometrics.

But last Saturday, it was Reg Davis Memorial Cup action as they took on Whitecroft at home.

Sharpness went 1-0 up in the first-half from Gibbs, who struck twice more after the interval, with substitute Harry Aldridge adding another for a 4-0 triumph.

But FC Barometrics arrived at Station Road and gave Berkeley Town a roasting to knock them out of the cup.

A goal-crazy first half saw Barometrics leading 3-2, with the game set-up for a tremendous tussle in the second period.

However, Berkeley leaked another four goals and netted just one themselves as they lost 7-3. Alex Gayner, Aaron Nash and Ryan Stevenson scored Berkeley’s trio of goals.

Berkeley will be looking to bounce straight back from the defeat by winning in their league opener on Saturday when they are at home to Taverners.

Cam Bulldogs, who finished second behind promoted Ruardean Hill Rangers last season, will be aiming to go one better this season and open their league account on Saturday at Aldsworth Road against Bibury.

Meanwhile, Dursley Town, of division two, had to rely on penalties to get past home side English Bicknor in the cup.

The match ended extra time with the sides tied at 1-1. But Dursley held their cool and, as English Bicknor missed their penalties, Town converted theirs to win the shoot-out 4-2.

It is second division action for Dursley Town this Saturday as they open their campaign away at Whaddon United.
