THORNBURY Hockey Club begin training for the new season on Monday September 4 at Castle School.

The thriving junior section sessions commence at 5.30pm-6.30pm with the clubs Under 10 and 12 players followed by the Under-14s and Under-16s at 6.30pm-7.30pm and the adults sessions following between 7.30pm and 8.30pm.

The senior sessions end on December 11 for a mid-season break and will restart on Monday January 8 2018 until Monday March 19.

The junior sessions finish on October 16 and restart on Monday October 30.

The break is to coincide with the schools half-term similarly in the New Year, sessions stop on February 5 and restart on February 19.

Senior club coach Max Longden will be involved in the sessions.

The first team, who play in Berkeley Two league, will be jointly led by Nicky Bruce and Carys Allen, with Sarah Brearley and Lauren Lever again guiding the fortunes of the young club second XI who play in Berkeley Three.

At the club AGM and awards evening, the first team player of the season was Elaine Arnold with Lucy Woodruff winning the top goal scorer accolade.

Sarah Lally was the second team leading scorer and Carys Allen player of the season.

The captain’s award went to the highly promising Lou-Lou Taylor for some outstanding performances during the season whilst sister Jess Taylor was highly commended for her efforts.

The Bill Crawford award went to Megan Allen whose energetic efforts in captaining the clubs Under-16 side along with some promising first team performances was well deserved.

The Margaret Jackson award went to club fixture secretary Steph Staton.

Steph also organises the club website and arranges umpires for the club whilst first team keeper Liz Jenkins received the Chairman’s award.
