DURSLEY Running Club were well represented on Sunday at the fourth running of the Severn Bridge Half Marathon.

The race gives competitors the chance to start on the iconic Severn Bridge, running down into Aust to compete a hilly circuit though the adjacent lanes before returning over the bridge.

Unusually for a bank holiday weekend, the participants had to contend with full sun and despite an early start the heat took its toll.

The race attracted 12 Dursley Running Club entrants, with Mike Brown, Kevin Jackson, Tony Wooldridge, Mark Sprigings, Nigel Sankey and Dave Durden all running in close order over the initial miles.

But as they turned for home, Jackson started to pull away as he continued to beat out a metronomic pace with only Brown and Sprigings able to stay close to him.

Jackson eventually went away from this pair, having a great run, to be first DRC runner home in one hour 32:39mins, (fourth M55), holding off Brown by thirty seconds.

Mark Sprigings was third home for DRC a minute and a half in arrears.

Emma Denton was first DRC woman home (fourth F40) in one hour 41:57mins, continuing to raise money for the Charity RP Fighting Blindness.

Tony Wooldridge (first M65) paced his effort well to pass Sankey and Durden as they entered the last six miles.

Despite the heat and the hills, Damian Lai ran a personal best, and Eileen Hieron ran two hours 22:29mins to place second F65.

Kevin Proctor was the Lantern Rouge for DRC.

Others completing the half were Richard Hogg, David Saunders (sixth M65) and Steve Barnes.
