Forest Green Rovers 0 Lincoln City 1

A second half goal from Harry Anderson would prove to be the difference in a game that neither side deserved to lose.

The game got underway but after just one minute, it stopped again. Christian Doidge and Sean Raggett collided in the air and after a six minute stoppage, Scott Laird hammered the Forest Green free kick wide of the far post.

In unusual circumstances, Rovers found themselves with an indirect free kick inside the Lincoln box after Paul Farman took too long with the ball in his hands. Liam Noble’s effort was blocked though and the chance passed.

The game was very bitty and the wind was causing both sides trouble. Luke James was called upon to track back and his clearance inside the box arrived just in time to deny Lincoln an opener.

Diving down to his right, Brad Collins produced a smart stop after 43 minutes as he kept control of a fizzing effort, denying Harry Anderson from the edge of the box.

Noble tried his luck from the edge of the box as Doidge set him the ball but the skipper’s effort was deflected harmlessly into Farman’s arms.

Lincoln took the lead after 64 minutes as a long ball caught the wind and Harry Anderson ran through. The Lincoln forward rounded both Dale Bennett and Brad Collins before tucking home into an unguarded net.

Doidge was played in by Noble and the striker’s lofted effort was well tipped over by Farman in the Lincoln goal as Rovers began to apply pressure.

Dale Bennett made an excellent block with 10 minutes to play as he prevented Josh Ginnelly’s goal-bound effort from troubling Brad Collins.

The Rovers' stopper then did brilliantly right at the end of normal time as he clawed away a goal-bound corner.

Forest Green made a final push in added time as even Collins was sent forward into the Lincoln box but they couldn’t quite make the breakthrough.
