GLOUCESTERSHIRE captain Phil Mustard admitted Glamorgan batsman Kiran Carlson batted well as his side saw Glamorgan fight back from a poor position to finish day one of their Specsavers County Championship division two clash in Cardiff with a reasonable score.
Carlson hit a career best 137 not out as his side recovered to 342-7 at the close of play.
Mustard said: “At 63-4, you think you’re in a good position. Fair play to Carlson and (Andrew) Salter. They came out and batted really well which is what turns good teams into better teams.
"They took us down as a bowling unit and we didn’t really have many answers but we got the two late wickets which was a pretty good effort.
"Getting the last two wickets makes it that little bit easier. If we hadn’t got them, the lads might not have wanted to get out of bed this morning! The last two wickets have put us in a good position in the game.
“Early on the pitch did a little bit which is why we got four wickets. Once the sun came out and started beaming, the wicket got slower and flatter so we couldn’t really make use of our seam attack as much as we would have liked.”
