EFL FOOTBALL LEAGUE TWO

CAMBRIDGE UNITED 3

FOREST GREEN 0

FOREST GREEN boss Mark Cooper insists he will work hard to find the right formula after seeing his struggling side crash at Cambridge United.

Rooted to the bottom of the table, Rovers have lost six of their last seven league games, and their tendency to press self-destruct was once again apparent.

Jabo Ibehre opened the scoring after 15 minutes before a six-minute brace from Uche Ikpeazu in the second period handed Cambridge a routine victory.

“We can’t concede goals like that and expect to win games of football,“ Cooper told FGR TV. “I sound like a broken record now, but whatever players have played, we have conceded ridiculous goals, and until that stops, it’s difficult. We have to move on to Saturday and have to keep working hard and try to find the right formula.”

Earlier, Cooper made five changes to the team that lost 2-0 to Swindon Town on Friday night. Captain Liam Noble was left out of the squad and his place was taken by Isaiah Osbourne. Charlie Cooper missed out due to suspension. Sam Russell took the place of Brad Collins in goal. Scott Laird dropped to the bench and Omar Bugiel was handed his first start of the season, with Dan Wishart returning to the starting eleven.

Hoping to find form, Rovers started brightly, David Forde made a fine save from Dan Wishart's free-kick.

However, Ibehre gave Cambridge the lead on 15 minutes, converting Medy Elito's cross after he had been played in by George Maris.

Cambridge turned up the heat on Rovers, Maris struck the bar from outside the area.

It was end-to-end, Leon Legge cleared off the line after Forde dropped Dale Bennett's cross under pressure from Christian Doidge.

Relishing in his second-half role as a striker, Wishart almost netted an equaliser for FGR. Tricking his marker, he drove inside, but Forde produced a good stop to push away the strike. Alex Iacovitti then could have scored from the second cross, but he couldn’t properly connect and his volley bounced wide.

However, Ikpeazu doubled the lead 10 minutes into the second-half, cutting inside from the left and firing home off Russell’s far post, before scoring again six minutes later.
