THERE was a trio of half marathon results for Thornbury’s runners over the last two weekends.

Ian Evans took part in the undulating Forest of Dean Autumn Half Marathon on September 24 and finished in one hour 49:52 mins in 218th place.

Nick Langridge competed in the Cricklade Half Marathon on Sunday and found himself in a fierce race for age group top honours.

Langridge passed his main rival after 11 miles and attempted to pull clear.

But his opponent doggedly clung on to him.

Within touching distance of the finishing line, the Belgrave Harrier suddenly appeared on Langridge’s shoulder, pushing the Thornbury man down one place overall to 59th and second place in the sixty and over age category.

Langridge’s finishing time was still a very good at one hour 36:31 mins.

Andrew Darton has had an injury interrupted season, but managed to get to the start line of Cardiff Marathon on Sunday.

Andrew’s time of one hour 33:20 mins is ten mins below his racing peak, but in the context of his preparation, it was a very good effort from him to reach the finish.

Moray Sloan has been chasing a sub twenty-minute parkrun time and has come close on several occasions over the last two years.

He arrived at the start line on Saturday at Gloucester’s Kingsway course not expecting a quick time, but surprised himself by recording a new personal best of 19:55 mins in eighth place.

The only other parkrun result last weekend came from Mark Grimsey, who ran 30:17 mins at Burnham and Highbridge.

Amongst the mayhem of the Catalan Independence Referendum at the weekend, Richard Phillips travelled to Spain for Ironman Barcelona triathlon competition.

Phillips is used to finishing amongst the strongest swimmers and completed the 3.9k sea swim in a very quick 58:08 mins.

The bike section along the Catalan coastline is relatively flat and Phillips took good advantage of it to ride the 180k bike section in five hours 4:33 mins.

An Ironman finishes with a marathon, which Phillips ran in four hours 41:47 mins for an overall time of ten hours 55:07 mins.

He finished in 58th place in the 50-55 age category.
