THREE Dursley Running Club triathlon members headed to Cheltenham Lido on Sunday for a date with the Devil.

But it was not as frightening as it sounds for Jo Robinson, Jennie Marshall and Zoe Lamerton who took part in the Devils Aquathon.

This is a 2km swim followed by a 10km run.

An Olympic 50 metre pool swim of forty lengths, with the heating being turned off a week ago, meant the temperature had dropped but was still a reasonable 19 degrees.

Only Marshall braved the water without the wetsuit!

But Robinson was first out of the pool in 37 minutes with Lamerton making her exit from the water in 39mins and Marshall jumping out of the pool a couple of minutes later again.

After transition to a pair of shoes, it was out on the run.

A 1.5 mile run out of town towards Leckhampton Hill saw them face the steep climb of a thousand feet in a mile to the summit.

Tough terrain and slippy rocks made for a tricky ascent and descent. Once at the top, it was a return back down the hill to the finish.

Lamerton was first home to the finish line in the run in a time of 57:56mins with Marshall and Robinson coming home in times under one hour 05mins.

The final results saw Lamerton first DRC tri lady home in fourth place in her age category and eighth overall female in time of one hour 39:31mins, Marshall (third in her age category) in one hour 48:45mins, and Robinson (seventh in age category) in one hour 43:24mins l Four DRC Tri members travelled to Lydney for the Lydney Last Tri.

The day started with a 400m metres pool swim before moving on to the bike section, a pretty hilly route for 14 miles.

Richard Lewis managed to miss a turning which cost him dear. It was then back to transition before setting off on a three-mile run, then two laps around a small lake before the finish.

Mark Brasier finished in one hour 21:45mins (third in age category), Richard Lewis in one hour 42:22mins. Line Whitlock, one hour 46:50mins and Sandra Lewis in one hour 49:13 (third in cat).
