DARRELL Clarke has some serious thinking to do about his choice of personnel and tactics after a disastrous week in which we suffered two defeats.

We lost by a solitary goal to Oxford United at the Mem on Saturday after a hard fought game.

It was an even contest in the first half as we played some nice football and created some openings, the best of which fell to Nichols who was unable to break his goalscoring duck.

But Oxford also looked lively and showed why they are in the top half of the table as they looked dangerous going forward and well organised at the back.

It was goal-less at the break but unfortunately we faded in the second half and starting relying on some long balls out of defence that were comfortably dealt with by the Oxford back line.

The absence of the injured Bodin was costly as it was the type of fixture which was crying out for a moment of magic that he can provide.

Oxford were easily cutting through the 4-3-3 formation Clarke has been favouring as we were overrun in midfield.

It did not help that Ollie Clarke had to be substituted early in the second half as he looked like a red card waiting to happen.

Harrison looked sharp for us and Gaffney played well until losing momentum in the second half, while Telford gave a lively performance after coming off the bench.

Oxford looked the better side as the game went on and got their reward in the 82nd minute as they broke quickly from a Rovers’ attack and capitalised on a defensive lapse.

The Pirates were given a footballing lesson at in-form Shrewsbury on Tuesday evening as they put four goals past our hapless defence in the first half.

Clarke restored Sweeney to the starting line-up in place of Broadbent but the Shrews cut through our back line with ease. No further goals were conceded as the game ended 4-0 but the manager apologised to the fans afterwards for the poor showing.

Rovers need to bounce back with a much improved performance at Rochdale on Saturday.
