West Women’s League
Berkeley Div 1
Wotton Ladies 0 Wick 0
WOTTON Ladies instructions were clear, and expectations high, and the team started the game at a high tempo with forwards Millie Mayer and Naomi Culpepper showing skill, pace and drive, but early pressure wasn’t converted.
Wick on the break looked dangerous, but keeper Jane Rogers had the measure of them, on multiple occasions stopping them dead in their tracks, and when a flick was awarded against Wotton, the fear of Jane meant the ball went wide.
Wingers Olivia Green and player of the match Elodie Sparrow offered excitement on the attack, yet the Wick defence kept the scoresheet clean, despite many credible chances and shots on goal. Thursday’s training has clearly played its part as some fabulous reverse stick shots seemed sure to make the net, but Wotton continued to be thwarted by the defence.s A frustrating game, but not for lack of effort, Wotton remain in second place in the table.
Wotton host league rivals Redland UWE this Sunday in Round 1 of the England Hockey championships (the revamped National Knock out competition)
