Cirencester 4 Thornbury 1

THORNBURY Ladies took advantage of a break in the West Clubs Women’s League Berkeley Two programme to play a friendly at Cirencester last weekend.

The young Thornbury side were captained by Carys Allen in the absence of Nicky Bruce and the popular defender was full of praise for the commitment shown against a more experienced home side.

And Thornbury got off to a flying start as they took the lead in the first minute of the match when Megan Allen scored with a powerful shot following a penalty corner.

The corner was well injected by Megan McLachlan.

However, Cirencester drew level immediately and increased their lead with two further goals before the interval.

Elaine Arnold and Lou–Lou Taylor, along with captain Allen, thwarted a number of home attacks, whilst Anna Prince, Holly Gardner and Emma Matthews constructed a number of passing exchanges in midfield.

And these caused the home side problems at the back.

Rosie Liddington, Molly Smith and Allen were a constant threat up front for Thornbury but were unable to get a second goal mainly due to the home keeper making some fine saves.

Berkeley Two league matches resume on Saturday with Thornbury firsts hosting a derby clash at Castle School where they play Yate thirds at 10.30am.

Thornbury seconds travelling to KLB School to face Wotton-under-Edge thirds at 11.30am.
