Thornbury Ladies 1 Yate Ladies 3rds 4

YATE third team took the honours in their derby against Thornbury Ladies at Castle School.

Thornbury side started confidently with Jess Taylor and Izzy Hunter to the fore.

Yate were content to absorb the early pressure and counter attack but found that Elaine Arnold and Keelin Hales were more than able to defend and then distribute the ball to Alex Arnold, Rosie Liddington and Megan Allen.

Thornbury took the lead when Nicky Bruce deftly guided home a through ball from Miranda Evans.

Yate came more into the game and soon equalised when the experienced Alex Bissex powerfully hammered home following a penalty corner.

Carys Allen was prominent on the left side for the home side releasing sister Megan on a number of occasions.

The first-half was full of near misses but the score remained 1-1 at the break.

Yate played some very good hockey almost immediately after the interval and quickly found themselves in the lead with a goal from Laura Hewlett.

From then on, Yate were very much the dominant team, playing some lovely hockey, passing around Thornbury with ease.

The game was put out of Thornbury's reach when Kate Hollywood scored Yate's third goal.

The icing on the cake was Yate's fourth goal which was a tremendous team effort starting right from the defence with midfield assistance, onto the forwards.

Lucy Saunders took the ball down the wing and Alexandra Bessex put it in the back of the net.

It was a great effort from Yate while Thornbury will travel to Dursley this weekend looking for a victory after three successive reverses.
