UNCHARACTERISTICALLY, the Castle Combe race track was suspiciously devoid of much wind when the competitors were arriving for the DBMax Chilly 10k and Duathlon.

The track was later blessed with bright sunshine, but a chilly light breeze came with it. However for the time of year it was perfect racing conditions.

The Duathlon at Castle Combe consists of a one lap run of approximately two miles around the perimeter of the track, before entering the pits area for a transition onto bikes and then five laps around the actual race track, which is about 10 miles, before returning bikes to transition for another run lap around the perimeter.

Five Dursley RC tri competitors took part in the duathlon, with Mark Sprigings being brave by doing it immediately after completing the 10k, but still finishing with a credible sub hour time of 58:38mins.

John O’Dwyer completing the fastest Dursley RC time of 48:27mins, the battle of the day was between two of the new members of the team Andrew Oborne and Francois Low, finishing in 58:14mins and 58:16mins respectively after playing catch and pass on each other throughout the whole race.

Our lantern rouge for the team was Annette Heylings, who is still battling fears of the bike, but finished as second SuperVet 60 in a creditable one hour 13:11mins.

The next Chilly Duathlon at Castle Combe is in February which is sure to be very chilly.
