Berkeley Division 2

Wotton-under-Edge Ladies 2nds 1 Thornbury 0

WOTTON Ladies seconds beat local rivals Thornbury by a single goal.

An early pushback saw Wotton’s Ladies seconds off to a slightly slow start, with a few frustrating goal line fumbles and a ball off the post, but also a calm and collected mid-air, goal-line save from Cathy York.

However, Wotton improved hugely throughout the game, notably after half time and a realisation that this game was winnable.

The team continued to move the ball well and retain it, with some amazing one-twos down the side line by Lucy Driver, Hannah Cox and Maisie McPhail, and switching play by the defensive line of York, Marlize Wood, Leila Grey and Ming Green.

Impressive saves were made by keeper Holly Morton when the ball was turned over, and things looked increasingly positive.

After a pass to the top of the D, Joely Brewer scored the goal that the team deserved, following a great team performance.

Determination and a solid defence for the rest of the half won the game for Wotton, against a team higher in the table, earning Wotton another three points.
