Slimbridge 0

AFC Totton 2

TEN man Swans were downed by two late goals from AFC Totton on Saturday after captain Hoyle was sent off.

In an entertaining goalless first half, Slimbridge started the game with a flurry of early corners, the returning Marley Thomas cutting in from the left but was tackled before he could get a cross in.

The resulting corner was cleared to Adam Mace but his cross was blocked for another corner that was cleared by the Totton defence.

At the other end Craig Feeney burst down the right flank to cross for Oluwatobi Adekunle but his tame shot was saved by home stopper Ollie Hall.

Tony Lee’s cross for the visitors was expertly put out for a corner by the Swans Tom Hoskins.

The home sides Jack Twyman was unlucky not to score on 17 minutes hitting the base of the post from 18 yards out after some good build up play on the right.

Korey Pring then got his head on Feeney’s cross with Curtis Young running in behind ready to pounce, the visitors corner was then turned around the post by Hall. The following corner was put in deep to Young who shot over the bar from 25 yards.

After a spell of good possession by Slimbridge Dean Turner somehow managed to put his diving header over the bar from just five yards out.

On the stroke of half time Slimbridge were unlucky not to take the lead when Mike Bryant’s header from a corner was cleared off the Totton line.

Slimbridge continued strongly in the second half and Sam Turl found space on the right to play a cross field ball to Mace on the left threading in Joe Wilton whose shot was well saved by Shane Murphy but cleared back to Wilton who chipped the ball over the keeper unfortunately too high for Bryant to get on the end of.

Two yellow cards in seven minutes saw home captain Alex Hoyle take an early bath on 60 minutes and from then on it was an uphill battle for the Swans.

Totton piled on the pressure and scored what should have been their opener on 67 minutes but was ruled offside after a discussion between the referee and his assistant who had not previous flagged the offence.

The visiting strike partnership of Craig Feeney and Tony Lee tested home keeper Ollie Hall on a number of occasions, however the home defence held strong.

The visitors did eventually make the pressure count taking the lead through Charlie Gunson on 75 minutes latching onto a through ball and slotting past Hall. With the last kick of the game Jack Masterton fed the ball to Lee and his strike somehow crept underneath Hall and into the net at his near post having made the save.

Next up for the Swans is Winchester City at Thornhill Pack on Wednesday at followed by a trip up the M5 next Saturday to face local rivals Evesham.
