Gloucestershire Northern Senior League Division Two

Broadwell Amateurs 2 Dursley Town 0

DURSLEY Town restored some pride following the previous week’s double-figure hammering, but their 20th defeat from 25 matches confirmed that they will finish bottom of the Gloucestershire Northern Senior League Division Two.

Town now face relegation to the Stroud League unless the usual end-of-season re-organisation of the leagues around promotion and relegation hands them a timely reprieve.

At Broadwell, Phil Miles’ side gave a much-improved account of themselves, but conceded two goals in as many minutes to Michael Etheridge and Alex Brown midway through the first half.

In truth, the hosts did the bare minimum to stay on top, typified by the giant Craig Lewis controlling the midfield without ever breaking out of a jog, like a giraffe strolling around a zoo enclosure.

Dursley had plenty of efforts on goal, but Alex Griffith’s scattergun approach to shooting was as much a threat to passing birds as it was to the Broadwell goalkeeper.

And while Town increasingly pressed, they got no closer to pulling one back than when goalkeeper Keith Watson joined the attack for a last-gasp free-kick and sent an ungainly diving header across goal.
