COTSWOLD Edge Golf Club members took advantage of the lovely sunny weather last weekend to take part in the Ford Medal, an individual medal competition with trophies for both men and ladies.

The good conditions saw some very impressive under par scores for the men with several handicaps being reduced in the process.

Overall winner of the men’s trophy was Phil Frankland with a nett 63, Lyn Smart took the honours for the ladies with a nett 73.

Division 1: James Page nett 68, Vern Chappell 69 & John Leighton 70; Division 2: Tracy Tomlin 65, Martyn Pearce 67 & Kim Sharp 69; Division 3: Phil Frankland 63, Mike Simons from Sid Pratt both with 67; Ladies: Lyn Smart 73, Gill Polley 74 & Maria Sheppard 76.

Dominic Melville won the Junior’s Robson Salver Trophy with 35 points in the stableford competition from Adam Melville 34 and Charlie Jenkins 21.

Peter Martin won the Seniors Lawford Smith Plate, a stableford format with 37 points.

Division 1: Geoff Gillingham 35, John Leighton 34 & Martin Wilkins 33; Division 2: Peter Martin 37, Chris Reeve 36 & Ian Standbrook 35.

Mel Lee and Alison Ancrum qualified for the Coronation Foursomes regional final by winning the pairs stableford competition at club level.

It was very tight at the top with the pair winning on count back from Jessie Goodbrand and Heather Morgan and Gill Polley Mary Kowalczyk, all with 37 points.

They now choose a local venue to play at and winners from there go forward to the grand final at St Andrews in September.
