Gloucestershire County League Division Two

Ullenwood Bharat 234 all out beat Oldlands133 all out by 59 runs (revised target of 193 from 37 overs)

A RAGGED performance in the field from Oldlands, although it must be said in difficult conditions and with a wet ball for the majority of the first innings, saw the home side post a challenging score at the Wagon Works ground in Gloucester on Saturday.

Built mainly around two hard hitting innings from Mahesh Shetty (87) and Ryan Douglas (43), the visitors were always going to face a daunting challenge, but with the strong winds dismantling the sight screens, their task became even more difficult with picking up the ball out of the red brick houses at one end and dark conifers at the other.

Even this handicap, however, cannot disguise the lack of application from the O's batsmen as only Nick Grove, with 32, promised any degree of permanence at the crease.

Pick of the visiting bowlers was again skipper Steve Pennington (3 for 30), with Dave Walton being unlucky not to pick up a wicket in his impressive spell.

There were also three wickets for Stuart Reeves (3 for 48 from seven overs), and one each for Pete Waite and the back to form Dave Brookes, who also took an outstanding catch in the deep.

More work to be done for the Abwell outfit if they are to move away from the division's relegation places.
