THE DURSLEY Running Club Tri team were in action in two venues this weekend. Firstly in Cardiff and then in Shorncote near Cirencester.

Richard Pitts competed in the Cardiff sprint triathlon ITU (International Triathlon Union) qualifier.

The event was organised by Always Aim High Events, with all routes starting and finishing at the incredible and iconic Cardiff Bay.

The swim was in Cardiff Bay, the cycle on local roads and the run around the Cardiff Docks area. Swim 750m, Bike 20km and Run 5km.

The start was at a sociable 12.20pm. The draft legal bike was fast, with no penalties in this event for getting too close.

With the glorious weather, the run was hot. Richard finished 14th in his age group, with a time of one hour 12.37mins (Swim: 13.47, T1: 1.00, bike 36.38, T2: 45 seconds, run: 20.29).

Richard is keeping his fingers crossed the time is good enough for him to qualify for Lausanne.

The second event was the Tri Ferris Promotions South West open water triathlon dedicated to women only.

The event took place at the Cotswold Country Park and Beach, which is part of Britain’s largest water park, located in Shorncote near Cirencester.

DRC Triathletes were competing in the both the open water sprint 750m swim, 20km bike and 5k run and the open water super sprint 400m swim, 20km bike and 2.5km run.

This was a great safe environment to encourage Triathlon participation and progression with an open water swim, as a step up from pool based events.

All the girls had a good bike on a flat flowing course, with Zoe Fowler proving strongest and catching Tanya and Rachel. The run was two laps around the lake where they had swam, off road, in the welcome shade of the trees.

Leigh Allen was the only Dursley competitor in the Super Sprint, where she was strong in all three disciplines and finished third in her category.
